So, I’m starting a new series called Women in Charge. I’m going to share insights from my research and my own experience. I got my first managers job at 19 and I became a CEO at 28 (and just in case I haven’t mentioned it - I’m 50 in a matter of weeks) so I’ve got a few years under my belt.
Finding the energy for multiple daily call out of the behaviour you describe is hard at times.
I remember early in my career I was told to remove my nose piercings and ditch the trainers. Years later the trainers are back but sadly the nose piercings closed up.
Thank you for reading! It’s exhausting isn’t it some days. I refused to take my nose rings out but I know I didn’t get at least 1 job I interviewed for as a result - wild! We keep going and keep breaking cycles 🙏🏼
Very insightful. I relate to so much of what you’ve said. I remember being told if I wanted to be taken seriously I should rethink my hair colour! I dye it a shade of red! I have also been told so many times I’m too assertive or too emotional! What frustrates me most, particularly as a menopausal woman, some of this then does lead to tears (mostly from frustration) but that then reinforces the emotional narrative
I know that feeling, being so frustrated the tears come. I out all the emotion, own the menopause and that helps a bit! Ps… your hair has always suited you that red tone ❤️
Highly relatable, spot on read.
