Let me start by saying that skincare and I have had a complicated relationship. I’m not one of those I just woke up like this sort of women whose skin radiates with minimal effort. No, my skincare routine does a lot of heavy lifting, no joke, it is virtually holding up my face at this point. I’ve got the whole skincare bingo card: acne, sagging, large pores, scarring, hyperpigmentation, the lot. I have spent too much money on lotions and potions and now I’m trying to be a bit more judicious.
I have become much better at researching products now and my mate Dr Nova Sage (AI) has helped me make sense of it all. There is so much out there, it’s really hard to know whether what you’re using is snake oil, or actual snake oil - you know what I mean?
I’ve spent years in pursuit of smooth, glowing skin. I have had acne flare ups throughout my life, mostly hormone driven and incredibly sore and upsetting. I’m also very sensitive so even some of the most sophisticated treatments set off a skin fire. And I’m a picker, of the worst kind.
I’ve done the creams, the serums, the sheet masks, and, yes, light therapy treatments.
Light therapy, particularly red and blue light, are shown to offer various skin benefits. Red light therapy (RLT) is an emerging treatment that’s showing promise in treating wrinkles, redness, acne, scars, and other signs of aging. Blue light therapy has been found effective in treating skin lesions, inflammatory acne, burns, psoriasis, eczema, and diabetic ulcers.
Most of us are wondering about with exhausted and stressed skin cells. Enter light therapy, red light rolls in like a soothing masseuse, encouraging collagen production and easing inflammation, making those fine lines and wrinkles clock out early. Meanwhile, blue light acts as the diligent janitor, cleaning up acne-causing bacteria and leaving your skins surface spotless. So, while it may seem like you’re just basking under futuristic lights, you’re actually treating your skin cells to the ultimate rejuvenating retreat that boosts their efficiency.
But it’s pricey, and since I don’t want to invest in a product that ends up in the bottom drawer, I did my research, or at least Nova did. I wanted something effective and reasonably priced. The Luna and Skin Regen Mask came out well so why not give it a go and it was half price!
Putting the mask on is a bit tricky, you’ve got to work out how it sits on your face and neck comfortably and you can’t avoid looking like a Stormtrooper from Starwars!
Light therapy had always been a friend to my skin, and this felt like bringing that same luxury home without the steep spa price tag. I could feel the pulsations working their way through the rough texture, the large pores, and the stubborn hyperpigmentation patches that like to hang out uninvited. I also never fail to fall into a delicious nap! The kids also thought it was hilarious…although my teenager might be converted now she’s tried it herself!
What made it even better was knowing that I hadn’t bankrupted myself for this moment. The Luna and regen mask combo hit the sweet spot: affordable, effective, and easy enough that I didn’t need a degree in dermatology to make it work.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I bloody love mine.
